The sun was just coming up and beginning to illuminate the mosaics on the facade of Santa Maria in Trastevere, and the warm ochres and terracotta colors of the Piazza.
I love early mornings for the quiet and the freedom to walk unobstructed and to take photographs. Especially in a city like Rome – it is wonderful to feel you have the city to yourself for a few moments even if it is an illusion.
I loved Rome and really hope to go back there for a month+ stay to get to know the city better. The availability of vegan gelato is a big plus for me!
Hi Kate. I want to do that as well. I’ve been many times but never get to stay as long as I’d like. LOl on the gelato. I’m not vegan but I think it’s pretty easy to find good food in Rome
I found the light and the way it manipulates colors to be absolutely charming when I was recently in Italy.
Hi Cat thank you for visiting my blog. Yes the light is wonderful. I’m always inspired by it.
It must be wonderful to be there early and have the place to yourself! Great postcard… 🙂
I like late afternoon/early evening in Rome as well for the light. I’m usually not up that early in the morning 😉
Not many people are. 🙂
My friends think I”m crazy.

Such a beautiful corner of Rome, isn’t it? I fondly remember drinking a fresh orange juice in a little cafe overlooking the piazza. Very peaceful.
Gorgeous pic. And great idea getting out early in the morning to enjoy the serenity – Rome was always so bustling when I was there. That’s part of the charm, but it’s nice to see the city in a different light too.
Thank you Reena. I love the light in the morning. Many of my photos are taken early morning.
I look forward to exploring your blog more. Looks very cool.
Lucky you to find it at such a quiet time of day. I must get up earlier!
My friends think I’m crazy but I don’t mind it!
Great photo…I can see why it blew up on SU!:)
Love getting up early in cities when the streets are still waking up and the sun is just popping over the horizon!
Pretty photo, Penny. I spent 3 weeks in Italy when I was 12, touring with the Atlanta Boy Choir, so this brings back memories.
Thank you Bret. I’m glad you have good memories of Italy!
